Finance Training Assistant

Applications are invited for the position of Finance Training Assistant. This full-time position is situated within the Finance Division of the University of Cambridge, in the Finance Training section.

The Finance Division is responsible for managing the financial resources of the University, maintaining the integrity of the accounting records, establishing best financial practice and for producing both the statutory accounts and management information to assist in decision making at all levels of the University. The Division itself consists of approximately 180 staff based in the main at Greenwich House, arranged across three main areas: Financial Operations, Academic and Financial Planning & Analysis and Financial Services. The Finance Training Team currently provides specialist financial training to around 2500 staff which include researchers, accounts assistants, officers and even heads of departments, from across every department within the University. The training can be categorised into four main themes: the use of the University's Financial System (UFS); financial management skills; procurement and the provision (sometimes by external bodies) of professional financial training within the University. The team offers around 140 classroom events per year, 3-4 professional programmes plus a number of short on-line courses and webinars.

As well as providing administrative support to the team, the Finance Training Assistant is the first point of contact for course bookings and enquiries, acts as an online tutor for a number of courses and is the Examination Officer for AAT exams run by the University. In addition to providing advice on the training available, their role includes the collation and provision of management information, the operation and maintenance of numerous training systems and the ordering of course consumables, as well as recharging of course costs and exam fees across the University.

The role holder would report to the Manager Finance Training, and work at Greenwich House alongside the other four members of the team.

Requirements are a general education to O level/GCSE standard, including Mathematics and English, with good interpersonal and computing skills. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, in particular of Word and Excel is essential. The role-holder would be expected to have excellent communication and organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Other crucial proficiencies are an ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a busy office, whilst maintaining a high-level of customer service. Experience of working with the Cambridge University Financial System (CUFS) would be advantageous , as would the ability to grasp new systems and concepts quickly coupled with a willingness to learn.
