UIS are looking to appoint a self-starting and highly skilled Management Accountant to take ownership of a new financial model within UIS. The department offers the University a wide range of IT Services from networks and email, to high-performance research computing and highly specialist technology solutions. The role holder will be at the heart of our efforts to ensure we deliver these services in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
We have a complex financial structure that has to fit the requirements of the University chart of accounts, but also offer a transparent account of our service and project costs for users, in particular where our services are charged for. We have taken the first step in designing a financial model to give greater clarity, but we now need a Management Accountant to own and refine that model.
The role holder will provide key data that underpins our annual planning, but will also improve our internal financial management and forecasting for services and projects. The Management Accountant will also be at the heart of discussions with service owners and users about fair, transparent and timely decisions on the pricing model, which services are charged for, and how those charges are calculated and collected. You will be expected to work pro-actively in designing the model and gathering data, but will be well supported by both UIS and Finance Division in achieving and sustaining a robust working model.
In addition to these key pieces of work, the responsibilities will include preparing monthly and annual financial management accounts, budget monitoring, variance analysis, financial planning and forecasting activity, committee-servicing, as well as undertaking high-level problem solving and project work.
It is crucial that the role holder is an effective people person, with proven ability to present and explain complex financial data and to develop clear and effective visualisations. The role holder will have frequent contact with a wide range of service owners and stakeholders from across UIS, Finance Division and the wider University. Credibility and gravitas are also important attributes in these situations.
The successful candidate will also have a good eye for detail, with a proven track record in leading the design and delivery of new financial products. They will also have substantial experience of successfully implementing improvements to finance procedures and management information reporting, and an understanding of the University of Cambridge financial systems.
UIS is planning to implement a new strategic approach to service delivery going forward, and there are also proposals for changes in procurement and software management within the finance team. There is therefore likely to be scope for involvement in other projects and aspects of the department's activity following the initial years after appointment. So if you are looking for an exciting position in which to develop your career in finance, look no further.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
