The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint a Senior Dietary Assessment Specialist to play a leading role in establishing a new dietary assessment platform.
This exciting opportunity is part of a new research theme funded through the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre which aims to investigate the role that dietary, nutritional and lifestyle factors have in the causation of disease and, in doing so, provide evidence for preventative action. This new theme involves establishing a coordinated measurement platform for robust assessment of diet, nutrition and physical activity to provide expertise and capacity in this specialist area to support multiple research groups working in the UK and internationally.
The role offers the opportunity to lead and shape the vision for the BRC dietary assessment platform, developing a portfolio of specialist dietary assessment activities and identifying opportunities for development and enhancing best practice in the field. This is a high profile role with a strong external focus and extensive liaison with internal and external collaborators at a local, national and international level.
Applicants should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in nutrition or a related scientific discipline. A higher degree/PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant specialist subject area is desirable but not essential. Applicants will have specialist knowledge and skills in diet and nutritional assessment and substantial experience in dietary assessment methodologies, their uses and application in a variety of research. They will be confident in working collaboratively in a range of research settings to recommend methods, identify opportunities for and to lead method development work including the creation and implementation of research protocols. They will offer significant experience, be organised, able to work across a variety of projects, and will bring interpersonal and communication skills.
