Applications are invited for the post of Nutritional Biomarker Laboratory Co-ordiantor (Fixed Term) to play a key role in establishing the new Nutritional Biomarker Laboratory, which focusses on the development and application of methods for nutritional biomarker analysis and is part of MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine. The MRC Epidemiology Unit is situated within the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
This post is part of the Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle research theme of the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) which is developing a measurement platform to facilitate the assessment of physical activity, diet and nutritional biomarkers and provide capacity to support local, national and international research groups in both academic and clinical settings. As part of the BRC, a Nutritional Biomarker Laboratory (NBL) has been set up that focuses on the development and application of methods for nutritional biomarker analysis. The laboratory is led by Dr Albert Koulman and together with other team members the aim is to establish NBL as a world leading laboratory for nutritional biomarkers.
The post holder will be responsible for the initial setup of the infrastructure of the nutritional biomarker platforms for studies, surveys, natural experiments and trials. The post holder will report to the Head of the NBL and work closely with the Senior Nutritional Biomarker Specialist and other team members. The focus will be on establishing the practical organisation of the laboratory and the transfer of relevant methods and equipment from the MRC Elsie Widdowson Laboratory to the NBL on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and integrating methods and approaches with the other laboratories of the MRC Epidemiology Unit. The position is created to enable to setup of the laboratory.
While the primary focus of the post is on establishing the infrastructure of the laboratory, the post holder will also assist and carry out analytical work when necessary and contribute to the projects within the NBL to enable its establishment as a world leading laboratory for nutritional biomarkers.

The successful candidate will have a qualification in analytical, bioanalytical or a related science. A higher degree/PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant specialist subject area is desirable. Applicants will have proven skills in development, validation and application of routine analytical methods based on HPLC, LC-MS/MS or clinical/nutritional biochemistry and a track record in clinical or nutritional biomarker analysis.
