Research Assistant/Associate in Distributed Intelligent Systems (Fixed Term)

A position exists, for Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the Next Generation Converged Digital Infrastructure project funded by EPSRC and BT. The Research Assistant/Associate will work with the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) at the Institute for Manufacturing. The research will focus on the development of the 'knowledge layer' - an architecture for control of the network of service and communications nodes. Drawing from knowledge and experience in the domains of cyber-physical systems and industrial internet of things, a blueprint of the autonomic system in which software agents mirror or twin with physical nodes will be developed. In addition, the researcher will contribute to other research projects in DIAL.

The post holder will be located in Institute for Manufacturing, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The researcher's expertise will include distributed decision-making and control architectures, agent-based control and cyber-physical systems. Appreciation and knowledge of the challenges in telecommunication networks is desirable.

Applicants will be expected to have obtained or be close to obtaining a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline.

Salary Ranges:
Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688
Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
