We are looking to recruit a Research Assistant based in central Cambridge to work at the Centre for Risk Studies: a multidisciplinary research centre of excellence for the study of the management of economic and societal risks. The Centre's focus is in the analysis, assessment, and mitigation of global risk for the advancement of political, business and individual decision makers.
The purpose of this role is to develop tools and capability to research to develop a toolkit for assessing insurance losses from acts of cyber terrorism and destructive cyber-crime. The successful candidate will use various modelling techniques to estimate vulnerability and impacts of cyber terrorism and incidents of destructive cyber-crime. In addition, he/she will contribute to group discussions in the development of cyber terrorism scenarios as the research relationship continues.
You should be educated to first degree or postgraduate level in a relevant specialist subject such as engineering, physics or applied mathematics. You will have experience in developing complex quantitative models from the ground up and previous research experience should include economic impact analysis, catastrophe science, and/or sustainable development. A knowledge of terrorism or cyber technology is not required, but an interest in these fields would be desirable. Experience in modelling and strong quantitative skills are essential requirements for this role. Good time management and planning skills with a commitment to delivery are a pre-requisite of this role. In addition you should be an enthusiastic team member who is driven and committed.
This is a fixed term appointment for one year in the first instance.
