HR Administrator School of Clinical Medicine, Fixed Term or Secondment Opportunity


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months as part of a maternity cover arrangement.

The School of Clinical Medicine aims to provide leadership in education, discovery and healthcare. The School will achieve this through: inspirational teaching and training, outstanding basic and clinical research and integration of these to improve medical practice for both individual patients and the population. The School currently has c.2700 staff with this likely to increase to 3000 in the next 6 to 12 months.

The School employs c.500 clinicians who hold honorary clinical contracts with the NHS Trusts/Bodies along with c.400 staff on CRUK and/or MRC terms and conditions. Knowledge of the NHS and TUPE would therefore be an advantage.

The School HR team are based in the Clinical School Office on the Biomedical Campus and includes a Recruitment Team providing a Recruitment service to 18 departments.

During the next 18 to 36 months the School has a number of exciting projects taking place that include the new Capella building opening, the development of the Improvement Research Institute and the Dementia Research Institute alongside proposals for a new Cancer Research Hospital and Global Health initiatives. The HR Administrator will deliver the highest level of professional assistance and support to the HR Business Manager. The post-holder will provide high quality diary management with a range of internal and external meetings; they will support these meetings by preparing briefing notes, assembling agendas, drafting minutes and organising follow-up actions. The HR Administrator will provide HR administrative support to key processes and schemes i.e. Senior Academic Promotions, Senior Researcher Appointments/Promotions, and Returning Carers Scheme.

The post-holder will possess organisational, diary management and IT skills, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; communication skills both verbal and written; experience of working in a busy office environment; the ability to prioritise a demanding and changing workload; and confidence in working effectively both on their own initiative and as part of a team.
