Senior Research Associate - Trustworthy Technologies (Fixed Term, Part Time)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months.

This part-time Senior Research Associate position will explore interdisciplinary research into trustworthy technologies with the objective of starting new research projects. This post is associated with the new University of Cambridge Trustworthy Technologies Strategic Research Initiative (TT-SRI), which concerns the study of trust as it applies to technology development and use. It is inherently interdisciplinary, bringing together work on next-generation technologies and their underpinnings; the many dimensions of trust at individual, organisational and societal levels; and the legal, ethical and political frameworks impacting both trust and technology. Also relevant are disciplines where technology is increasingly applied, e.g. within finance, manufacturing, energy, transport, and medicine. Therefore, the TT-SRI is relevant to a very wide range of individuals and departments across the University. Cambridge has internationally-recognised expertise in many aspects of Trustworthy Technologies, providing a strong base. However, there are few examples of relevant collaboration, particularly across Schools, which this TT-SRI aims to nurture.

The position will be hosted at the Department of Computer Science and Technology. Working closely with the Chairs (Prof Simon Moore and Dr Jat Singh). Research will be undertaken into the interplay between disciplines. In particular, how regulatory, policy, economic and social factors might better influence new trustworthy technologies and vice versa.

The ideal candidate will have experience of consumer technology development and an understanding of the social impact of technology. A higher degree in a relevant discipline is essential. Relevant industrial experience is highly desirable. Experience of fund raising is desirable. An ability to undertake public engagement would be beneficial.

This part-time position is for 40% time (two days per week or equivalent each month) for twelve months from appointment.

Interviews will take place the week beginning the 15th January 2018.
