The role is part of the University of Cambridge's participation in the Sir Henry Royce Institute, a new multi-institutional Materials Research Institute for the UK (http://www.royce.ac.uk/). Cambridge's participation in the Royce Institute involves a > £10 million capital investment in new materials deposition and characterisation equipment. One of the main equipment tools is an ambient processing cluster tool for inert atmosphere deposition and processing of functional materials. It is a uniquely configured, custom-built tool that comprises 10 different glovebox modules, each of which is equipped with specific processing equipment, including vacuum deposition tools, tools for printing of functional materials as well as tools for testing, packaging and encapsulation.
The role of the technician is to run this cluster tool as a research facility for users from different departments within the University, from other universities as well as from industrial partners. This includes ensuring that the tool performs technically to its full potential but also engaging with the users to ensure that it provides maximum scientific benefit to the materials science community in the UK.
Candidates should be educated to degree level/level 6 vocational qualification or an equivalent level of practical experience with specific experience in functional materials deposition and processing. The position is available from 15th January 2018.
