We are seeking an experienced Scientific Study Coordinator to apply their skills to the coordination the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit's (CEU) growing portfolio of large-scale epidemiological studies. The CEU currently conducts global health studies in Bangladesh (BRAVE, BELIEVE), Malaysia (MAVERIK) and Sri Lanka (SHINES) in which large population cohorts are recruited to allow the study of key questions relating to public health in these areas. The CEU's portfolio of global health studies is expanding and it is expected that additional studies will emerge in the near future.
Working with senior academics at the CEU and international colleagues, the post-holder will coordinate the CEU's portfolio of international studies. The post holder will coordinate all aspects of recruitment to and monitoring of these studies, including: (i) the preparation and submission of documents for ethical review; (ii) the design and implementation of study protocols; (iii) oversight of the recruitment of participants; (iv) ensuring that data and samples are collected and distributed correctly; (v) contributing to the drafting of reports (scientific, administrative and financial) to funding bodies and; (vi) contribution to the drafting of scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Day-to-day coordination of all aspects of CEU-led international studies, including i) recruitment of participants ii) the collection, transport and storage of samples iii) sample analysis iv) data collection and transfer v) monitoring budgets and vi) monitoring study milestones and deadlines.
- Prepare scientific and administrative documents including scientific protocols, ethics reports, reports to funding bodies and correspondence with collaborators
- Assist in producing progress updates and reports for funding bodies and the Trial Management, Steering and Data Monitoring Committees. Become a contributing member of the Management and Steering Committees.
- Assist in the management of the grant budget and resources.
- Assist in the dissemination of study results by preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals, reports to internal and external regulatory authorities and publications on websites etc. In addition, to prepare abstracts and presentations for conferences.
- Any other tasks arising on a day-to-day basis that are necessary to ensure the smooth-running of projects and the achievement of project milestones and targets.
Education: Educated to degree level with a BSc in a relevant scientific field (e.g. biological or medical science) and hold a PhD.
Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience is recognised), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded or submitted appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
Experience and Skills: The role will require relevant experience in scientific study coordination and the ability to work independently as well as part of a large team including principal investigators and senior managers, project managers, data managers, administrators and statisticians.
