Senior Research Associate - Lifestyle Factors In Secondary Prevention (Fixed Term)


Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate (Fixed Term) to play a key role in developing a new programme of research on lifestyle factors in the aetiology and prevention of disease in patient populations.

The role is based in the MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department of the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge. The Unit studies the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and contributes to their prevention.

The Unit leads the Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle research theme of the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). This theme is developing a measurement platform to provide expertise and capacity to support research groups in academic and clinical settings. The post-holder will play a central role in developing a new programme of research to develop and evaluate interventions to change dietary and /or physical activity behaviours in patient groups to understand the aetiology of disease and enhance health outcomes. The disease scope of the research is open and areas of clinical opportunity will be identified in collaboration with the Cambridge NIHR BRC disease specific research themes.

Under the overall direction of the Cambridge NIHR BRC Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle theme lead, you will play a significant role in developing the research strategy; introduce and lead on new ideas and projects; design, supervise and perform analyses; line-manage, supervise or co-supervise junior researchers and students; liaise regularly with internal and external collaborators; and disseminate research results. You will have post-doctoral experience in a relevant area, coupled with a significant publication record and scientific recognition in this area of research. Ideally you will have experience of developing and evaluating lifestyle interventions and either leading research in a clinical setting or working closely with clinicians.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
