The role-holder will report directly to the Director of Strategy and Operations joining a team which provides expert analysis, guidance and procedural support to enable the Department's research investigators to build relationships with sponsors, win funding, achieve impact and report their achievements. The research portfolio comprises 500 active grants with a total contract value of approximately GBP200 million, generating income of GBP45 million per year.
The role-holder will:
- deliver business analysis to guide research funding strategy and planning
- establish and support relationships and networks with sponsors, academics, administrators and other institutions
- manage enquiries and calls for proposals
- provide expert guidance on how to win research funding and optimise knowledge transfer and impact
- develop and manage robust processes for ensuring compliance with research policies, rules and reporting requirements
- identify and secure opportunities for winning funding for research support.
A degree in an engineering, science or technical discipline or equivalent experience that enables a technical case for engineering research to be understood is essential. You also need to have experience of working in industry/business or winning research funding in academia. You need to be adept at analysis, communication and process management with relevant experience. running management processes and drafting documents. The ability to work independently and an advanced level of knowledge in IT are also required in this role.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
