Research Assistant [Temporary/Maternity Cover]

Temporary 1 year contract, starting Jan 2018

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) is a department within the University of Cambridge, Clinical School and has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

The Histopathology/ISH Core Facility offers a variety of histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, tissue micro-array, laser capture microdissection, as well as automatic slide digitisation and image analysis to CRUK CI scientists.

We are now looking to recruit a Research Assistant to join our team on a temporary 1 year contract and contribute to the achievements of our Core Facility. This is a general histopathology role which will include routine histopathological processing of paraffin and frozen samples, as well as conducting the sectioning of these blocks for routine H&E and special staining. In addition, the role holder will be expected to carry out digital scanning of facility slides.

The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a team environment, provide help to other members of the team, and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the laboratory. They will possess communication and customer service skills, and have the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of personalities and staff at all levels of seniority. Attention to detail, organisation and significant experience in histology are essential. The candidate will have a Biomedical Science degree or equivalent experience.

Full-time and part-time* applicants considered.
*minimum 3 days/week to include a Friday

Maternity cover: This post is fixed-term for 1 years or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
