The Department of Physics is seeking to recruit a highly skilled and dynamic individual to join the Mechanical Workshop team.
The Department is one of the largest departments in the University, with over 1000 staff, students, visitors and collaborators organised into 15 research groups and a number of support services. This role is based within the Mechanical Workshop of 17 staff, which provides mechanical engineering support to the experimental research groups, designing and manufacturing bespoke components and whole pieces of apparatus to allow Physics research to be conducted.
You will be one of the most skilled and senior members of the Mechanical Workshop, delivering highly specialised technical support to research groups in the design, development, manufacture, maintenance and installation of scientific instruments and research laboratory equipment. You will manage relevant workshop equipment, and supervise some of the second and third year apprentices in their training on various techniques.
With a suitable first degree or Level 5/6 Vocational qualification, you will have substantial relevant experience in a similar research or technical environment.
The Department is fast moving and future-focussed and will be moving to a new state-of-the-art £300M building in three years' time. We are seeking dynamic and committed individuals to join us in this exciting period of change and development.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
