Applications are invited for a part-time post of Cambridge University Constable. We particularly welcome applications from women for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department. Normal hourly rate: £8.85 and approximately 100 hours per annum. Stipend, payable quarterly in arrears £227.40
The principal function of the University Constabulary is to assist on Ceremonial occasions as well as at Congregations and support the Proctors in their role.
Constables are appointed by the Vice-Chancellor to assist the Proctors. You should be prepared to work unsocial hours i.e. Saturdays, Sundays and on rare occasions in the evenings and throughout the night. You will be required to work eleven Saturdays per annum and will need to be available to assist the Proctors in their disciplinary duties on a rota basis and to attend other VIP and Ceremonial events. Attendance at the Swearing-in Ceremony (1 October), General Admission Graduations (4 days in June/July each year) and monthly Congregations is mandatory.
It is necessary to be able to communicate with a wide range of people and keep calm in challenging situations. It would be desirable that individuals are able to work with the minimum of supervision on their own or in small groups. It would also be desirable to have some general Knowledge of the University and Colleges or a security related background.
Fixed-term: 12 months.
