Deputy REF Manager (Impact) - Secondment Opportunity (Internal Candidates only). Maternity Cover

The University of Cambridge Research Strategy Office wishes to appoint a Deputy REF Manager (Impact). This is an excellent opportunity to join the University of Cambridge Research Strategy Office at an exciting time.

The REF is the national system for assessing the quality and impact of UK universities across all disciplines. It determines block-grant funding of over £1.6 billion per year. Almost nine out of ten (87%) University of Cambridge submissions for the 2014 REF were rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', demonstrating our strength in research. The role-holders will work on the impact element of REF 2021 to support and maintain the University's reputation for excellence in research.

The role holder will work closely with colleagues in the Research Strategy Office, but also with people across the University including the PVC (Research), Heads of Schools, Chairs of Unit of Assessment panels, Departmental Administrators, Heads of Department, and Heads and Secretaries of Schools. They will be required to give advice and guidance on national and University REF policy and processes, particularly .in complex cases where institutional staff feel the need to obtain central guidance and they will provide the lead in supporting Faculties and Departments across the University as a whole in preparing the REF impact case studies.

The role holder will also act as deputy to the REF Manager for all confidential aspects arising during the course of REF preparations and will provide line management support to REF Senior Impact Co-ordinators.

Role-holders will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively with staff at all levels. The ability to author and edit clear and persuasive documents is essential. Role-holders will be educated to degree-level or higher and will ideally have experience of working within a Higher Education Institute.
