Applications are invited for a part-time post at the Reader Services Desk in the Entrance Hall of the main University Library. The Reader Services Desk team is part of the Reader Services Division. Working under the supervision of the Team Leader, the successful applicant will be assisting in the provision of high quality library services in a busy, customer-focussed environment.
This post in the Reader Services Desk team can be assigned to any aspect of the team's work, and is generally based at the Reader Services Desk in the Entrance Hall. The Reader Services Desk is the main reception for all visitors to the Library and the Milstein Exhibition Centre, receiving over 600 visits per day, and is usually the first point of contact for telephone and email enquiries.
Duties will include providing a welcoming first point of contact to the Library's readers and visitors; the accurate operation of the Library's automated system to carry out all aspects of circulation services; dealing with general enquiries; and handling the movement of books across the Library by sorting, delivering, shelving and checking.
Applicants should be customer focused and able to provide a friendly and efficient service at all times. This post requires good communication and IT skills; enthusiasm; flexibility; and the ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team.
The working hours for this post are 14 hours per week and will include the requirement to work from 8.45am - 5p.m. on Saturdays, with the additional 6.45 hours worked during a weekday subject to negotiation, ideally Mondays or Thursdays.
