The Department of Engineering has a vacancy for an experienced Cleanroom Technician to join the Nanoscience Centre, Division B which supports world leading research and teaching.
Reporting to the Divisional Laboratory Manager the role-holder will deliver a complete specialist technical service to staff and students within the cleanroom facility in the Nanoscience Centre and is supported in this role by two dedicated cleanroom technicians. The role-holder will have specific responsibility for the day to day running and operation of the Cleanroom and Laboratories and the maintenance of experimental apparatus. You will supervise two technicians and allocate work.
You will give guidance and specialist advice on laboratory techniques to students and staff who will use this facility to conduct research. Specialist skills are required in the operation of cleanrooms and vacuum systems and the correct use of equipment to include the safe use of hazardous and potentially explosive gases, dangerous acids and other chemicals. You will ensure that appropriate safety procedures are followed in the cleanroom and laboratories.
The ability to adapt and modify existing procedures to satisfy unique experimental requests and to ensure that this does not compromise operational or safety requirements is desirable, as is the ability to supervise, guide and encourage others in completing experimental tasks.
The ideal candidate should have a HNC/BSc degree or equivalent level qualification in an engineering or a closely related field. You should also have experience of working in a cleanroom (preferably research based) environment, and be able to operate and give guidance to others in the use and application of experimental apparatus that is typically found in cleanroom laboratories. You should also have sound IT and communication skills.
