Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate funded as part of a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award called the Neuroscience in Psychiatry Network (NSPN). This is the largest mental health and neuroscience network in the United Kingdom bringing together the University of Cambridge and the University College London.
The purpose of this role is to analyse a large sample of structural MRI, diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state fMRI data collected on healthy adolescents and young adults. The objective will be to use and develop state-of-the-art image analysis methods to characterise longitudinal developmental changes in brain structure and function in healthy adolescence. There will be a special focus on measuring and modelling the complex network architecture of the human brain and understanding how normal maturational processes affect brain network organization and relate to genetics, behaviour and cognitive function. The role will provide substantial scope for originality, academic judgement, collaboration and presentation of results.
The post will be based at the Behavioural & Clinical Neuroscience Institute (BCNI) at the University of Cambridge. The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Petra Vertes and will work closely with Professor Ed Bullmore, Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Chief Investigator of NSPN, as well as other members of the research group. The post holder will need to work effectively both independently and as part of the large team of researchers involved in NSPN.
Candidates should have specialist knowledge in image analysis methods and scientific programming as well as a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. A background in physics, statistics or a related quantitative science would be advantageous.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Petra Vertes, firstname.lastname@example.org
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
