The University of Cambridge Research Strategy Office wishes to appoint a Research Information Analyst to support the University's submission for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021. The REF is the national system for assessing the quality and impact of UK universities across all disciplines. It determines block-grant funding of over £1.6 billion per year. 87% University of Cambridge submissions for the 2014 REF were rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', demonstrating our strength in research.
The role-holder will work closely with the REF team and in the wider Research Information space, including University Information Services (UIS). Their objectives will be to help to develop robust reporting facilities for colleagues around the University in the following areas: Publications recording (including Open Access), Impact, interdisciplinary, and intra- and inter-institution projects. A primary focus of the role is to work closely with the Research Strategy Office (RSO) and Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO) to develop procedures to support information-sharing activities for the Senior Management of the University (the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice- Chancellors, Heads of Schools and Heads of Divisions) as well as supporting the reporting of research information to Faculties and Departments. This will include seeking and exploiting opportunities for improvements in the processes of both Offices, and communicating with colleagues in Faculties, Departments and Schools to survey and satisfy reporting needs in preparation for the REF exercise.
The role-holder will assist development of bespoke applications of data and information to support the work of the Pro Vice Chancellor Research (PVCR) and the Research Policy Committee (RPC) and collaboration with colleagues in the RSO, ROO and SPO to support the University's response to external funding opportunities. The role-holder will be required to represent the University at both internal and sector-wide fora, focusing on the need to develop both national and international database infrastructures for management information purposes. The role-holder will also work closely with colleagues across the University in implementing a strategy on gathering, collecting and analysing research information and scoping exercises for internal and external purposes, for example to aid key University Bodies (e.g. the General Board and its committees including the RPC) in their decision-making processes.
The role-holder will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to work effectively with staff at all levels with ability to address and communicate highly complex information to diverse groups of people, ranging from technical support colleagues through to senior academics.
The role-holder will be educated to degree-level or higher and will ideally have experience of working in a Higher Education context.
