Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral research associate position in Spinal Cord Repair John van Geest Centre for Brain Repair Centre, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge

A research associate position is available in James Fawcett/ Keith Martin group to study axon regeneration in the mammalian spinal cord. Axon regeneration in the CNS fails because of the inhibitory environment and because axons lose the intrinsic ability to regenerate. Recent work from Cambridge has shown that intrinsic regeneration ability is lost with maturity in the CNS because of changes in axon transport and signalling. The project will develop new regeneration treatments based on trafficking and signalling, and these will be tested using in vivo regeneration models.

The associate will join a group of 6 post-docs and 4 PhD students which focuses on regeneration in the spinal cord and optic nerve. The associate will focus on in vitro models and mechanisms of regeneration, or in vivo regeneration and mechanism experiments. Two recent papers which form the basis of the project are: EFA6 regulates selective polarised transport and axon regeneration from the axon initial segment (2017) Richard Eva , Hiroaki Koseki , Venkateswarlu Kanamarlapudi , James W.
