Research Grants Administrator (Part Time, Fixed Term)


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 October 2018 in the first instance.

Applications are invited for the position of Research Grants Administrator at the Institute of Criminology. This is a new part-time position, and the role-holder would work within the Finance Office. The position is 80% FTE and is available from 1st November, 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. The funds for this post are available until 31st October, 2018 in the first instance.

The Institute of Criminology is a growing academic department with around 60 members of staff (academic, research and administrative/library staff). The Institute is highly productive in terms of its academic research. It houses five active research centres: the Prisons Research Centre, the Peterborough Adolescent and Young Adult Development Study (PADS+, previously part of SCoPiC), the Centre for Penal Theory and Penal Ethics, the Violence Research Centre and the Centre for Community, Gender and Social Justice.

The role holder provides administrative support for the various research grants that are applied for and awarded within the Institute, with a focus on the pre and post award financial management of grants. Currently the Institute has a growing portfolio of 28 active research grants with an annual research income of approaching £2m.

The successful candidate will be used to working in an extremely busy environment whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent or have significant level of practical experience. In addition you will have worked in a grants or accounts environment with a strong customer service focus. Ability to work on own initiative, under pressure and to tight deadlines in a very busy office is essential. Knowledge of the HE research environment, with ideally knowledge of grants administration processes would be highly desirable, as would experience of using a research grant costing tool, for example X5.
