The Digital Services Division is looking for an experienced technical specialist to join the Digital Services Team. This team plays a key role in building and supporting both existing and future key business services and systems for the main University Library, the Affiliated Libraries and library services that support teaching, learning and research across the University. This role holder will work on several key significant projects at a time. Some of these projects will be delivering institution-wide services; others will be smaller in scale but no less important to the success of the Digital Services unit within the University Library. Projects that the role holder will be working on include the re-architecting of the Library's IT infrastructure to provide the platforms and services within a secure environment.
The role holder will have excellent technical knowledge and experience and a willingness to pick up new skills and work on a wide variety of platforms and tools, and will have a focus on delivering services with a high degree of performance and reliability. The role holder should be a good team worker with the ability to work independently when required. They should be self-motivated with good problem-solving and analytical skills.
To play a full role in delivering excellent services used across the libraries and beyond, experience of the following key skills are required:
-An in-depth knowledge of managing Linux/Unix systems.
-Experience of managing OSS platforms, including technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, Postgres, MySQL.
-Experience of PowerShell Scripting and Group Policy Configuration.
-Experience of running backup systems, and demonstrable experience of management of security across systems.
-Experience of scripting in bash/python/perl or similar.
-Experience and knowledge of the following would be an advantage: Samba, ZFS, Ceph, LDAP, Dell Kace, MailServers, Firewall Management, familiarity with virtualisation technologies, Puppet, Ansible, TCP/IP networking; management of Windows systems, DFS, Active Directory.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
