A Research Assistant position is available in the Centre for Sustainable Development, Department of Engineering, located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The research will be focussed on modelling, simulating and conducting in-situ experiments of traditional solid-walled buildings in the UK. The study will be looking into the effects of moisture accumulation in the sustainability of the infrastructure, envelope of buildings, resilience of the infrastructure and occupant health. The research will involve both office based work around model simulation of different building types and field work conducting in-situ testing in real housing, monitoring the infrastructure performance based on climate conditions and thermal material installation.
The project is funded by a multinational corporation, Kingspan Insulation, and the role of the researcher will include regular client interaction, visits to the company's headquarters and travelling to Kingspan's facilities in the Netherlands to conduct experiments
Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a Degree and/or Masters in either/or engineering, construction, architecture, energy efficiency. Ability to work on own initiative; Effective written and verbal communication skills. Track record in data analysis and/or numerate research skills. Familiarity with simulation tools, ideally in building modelling, Matlab (or similar tool) and an understanding of thermodynamics.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,298 - £29,301
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
