A position exists for a Research Assistant/ Research Associate in the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory to work on the Dynamic and Adaptable Supply Chain Logistics System (DASHLog) project funded by industry.
The focus of this project is to develop novel logistics information systems and new types of operations that can enhance the performance of logistics and warehousing organisations. Specifically, it aims to develop solutions that can modify the current information systems and operations so that they can respond to new customer requirements, projects and demands especially in relation to the rapidly growing area of e-commerce.
The post-holder will help to develop prototype software systems that can demonstrate the ability to enable information and operational systems to adapt to new logistics and warehousing requirements. This will likely involve the use of big data and data analytics techniques to predict when information technology (IT) and operational changes are required.
The skills and qualifications required to perform the role are a PhD (or close to obtaining a PhD) in Computer Science/Information Systems, Engineering, Operations Management, or related scientific discipline, and experience in all or some of the following areas: - Industrial data management: enterprise IT systems used to support operations, data access and representation - Workings and the development of information systems (including IT architectures) -Data science and new data-driven techniques - Simulation and modelling approaches -Writing of software programs - Operations management with a focus on logistics and supply chain management

Salary scales - Research Assistant: £25,298 - £30,175: Research Associate: £30,175 - £38,183
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
