We are looking to recruit a Research Assistant/Associate based in Central Cambridge to join our team of risk researchers within the Centre for Risk Studies. The role holder will support research within Project Pandora which investigates the factors influencing economic impact and recovery from catastrophes through conducting historic event case studies and applying macroeconomic theory. This research will analyse factors of resilience in different social and economic conditions, with a primary focus on the role of insurance. Additional work may entail using these research findings to quantify resilience metrics within the Cambridge Global Risk Index. The candidate will generate research reports and work on a range of related research topics at the Centre for Risk Studies.
You should be educated to postgraduate or PhD level with a background in geography, economics, engineering or quantitative social science. You would have experience in fields such as risk analysis, economic impact analysis, catastrophe science, and/or sustainable development. Strong writing skills are critical including ability to communicate technical detail to a broad audience. Strong Excel skills would be an advantage and experience in a scripting language, such as Python, R or Matlab is preferred but not required. You should be driven and committed, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation. Previous project management experience will be an asset. Good time management and planning skills with a commitment to delivery are prerequisite of this role, as well as the willingness to continually update knowledge in the specialist area and engage in continuous professional development.
The salary will be in the range of £25,298-£29,301 per annum for appointment at Research Assistant level or £29,301-£38,183 per annum for Research Associate level (PhD holders). Successful candidates at Research Associate level who have not been awarded their PhD by the appointment date will be under-appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5) employed on a salary of £28,452 per annum. Upon award of the PhD the individual will be promoted to Research Associate (Grade 7).
This is a fixed-term appointment for one year in the first instance.
