Public Engagement Manager (Part Time)

The Gurdon Institute is a vibrant, world-leading centre for research at the interface between developmental biology and cancer biology, supported by Wellcome and Cancer Research UK ( ). As a research centre, and a Department of the University of Cambridge, the Gurdon Institute has a major responsibility to contribute to society through public engagement. The Institute wants to inspire young people's interest and excitement in science, positively impact the public perception of fundamental research and make public engagement part of its research culture ( We are looking for an innovative and dynamic Public Engagement Manager to lead all aspects of public engagement and outreach at the Institute. S/he will develop and implement the Institute public engagement strategy and will coordinate and oversee a wide range of outreach activities. Candidates should have a degree level qualification in a scientific subject (biology related) and a post-graduate qualification in science or public engagement. Proven experience and expertise in:- communication, working with public engagement in science, managing projects and events, applying for grant funding and people management are all essential. Applicants must have outstanding written and verbal communications skills, excellent organisational and administrative ability, demonstrate that they can communicate and work with people at all levels of scientific understanding and seniority as well as having leadership, problem solving and decision making skills. The person appointed will often have to work to tight deadlines, with occasional weekends and evenings, and should be keen to convey their enthusiasm for science to others. A first aid qualification would also be desirable.

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available until 30 November 2021 in the first instance.
