Learning and Development Manager


Cambridge University Library is one of the world's great research libraries. The Library is a major scholarly resource, not only for the University's staff and students, but also nationally and internationally. It has been collecting books and manuscripts since the 14th century and now has one of the greatest and most accessible collections of books and manuscripts in the world. As a legal deposit library for almost 300 years, the University Library also has comprehensive holdings of UK publications, as well as extensive collections built up through purchase over several centuries.

The University Library and its affiliated network currently comprises over twenty libraries and is expected to expand further over the next few years. Its mission is to provide a consistent, first-class user experience in all these library environments and in virtual services, with an ongoing programme of enhancing support for all forms of research, teaching and learning.

The Library therefore needs to ensure that it has effective workforce planning, underpinned by up-to-date professional information and technological skills, and is able to respond quickly and effectively to changes in demand and technology.

Reporting to the Human Resources and Staff Communications Manager, the role holder will be responsible for needs analysis, planning and delivery of staff learning and development (SLD), within the University Library and its Affiliated Libraries (UL), using a mix of internal and external academic and professional providers.

This will also include apprenticeships, graduate programmes, as well as regulatory and best practise training obligations. It will therefore be essential to main an active awareness of developments in the higher education environment and how these impact on the University and the University Library's vision

In collaboration with the University Library's Leadership Team, Senior Management Group and key stakeholders (academic and library community), the role holder will control a substantial budget.
