Job Opportunities

Administrative Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Administrative Assistant to join the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) BioResource. The NIHR BioResource is modelled on the Cambridge BioResource (CBR), which is an established panel of over 18,000 volunteers and patients who have provided clinical information and samples that allow them to be recalled by genotype and/or phenotype for a range of studies, including experimental medicine studies and early phase clinical trials. To date the NIHR BioResource has recruited over 100,000 volunteers nationally.

The design of the NIHR BioResource is based on two stages. Stage 1 encompasses the enrolment of research volunteers (both healthy volunteers and patients) onto the volunteer panel to include collection and storage of contact information, personal details, including lifestyle and health information and collection of biological samples (DNA, serum, plasma) and sample storage. Stage 2 involves recalling these enrolled research volunteers according to their genotype and/or phenotype to participate in research studies.

As an Administrative Assistant in the Stage 1 team, the role holder will provide administrative support to the process of enrolling volunteers and patients into the NIHR BioResource, including liaison with the volunteers themselves to obtain the relevant information such as consent forms, health questionnaires etc., and liaison with local BioResource centres and other recruiting centres to ensure they have the information they require for any enrolment of volunteers and the collection of volunteers data.

The role holder will be one of the primary points of contact for all nationwide research volunteers enrolling into the NIHR BioResource. This involves responding to all standard queries (via email, telephone or in person) about the process and the implications of joining the BioResource. The role holder will work closely with the NIHR National BioResource Manager, ensuring that all data is recorded accurately and processed in line with data protection regulations.

Candidates should be educated to at least A Level standard (or equivalent) with GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics and English and be highly competent in Word processing, Excel spreadsheets and databases. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. It is expected that candidate will have previous experience in a clerical/office post in a research setting, ideally acquired through working in Higher Education, the NHS or in a research/medical institution and be able to deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information.

This appointment is full-time/36.5 hours per week.
