Head of the Office of Translational Research (Fixed Term)


The School of Clinical Medicine is seeking a senior and experienced Translational Research Manager to manage the Translational Research Office. The post holder will have a personal caseload of major collaborative projects to support and/or to pioneer strategic projects/programmes with new partners in addition to managing a small team. The post holder will be expected to pay particular attention to assisting senior PIs in structuring and managing a programme of collaborative research projects between a major pharmaceutical company and the University of Cambridge/Cambridge University Health Partners. The post holder will be expected to be proactive in identifying opportunities for collaboration and forging new partnerships including assisting senior scientists develop scientific and costed business plans for projects. The post will interact with senior scientists and managers in both the University and collaborating organisations and will be accountable to a high-level steering committee(s) chaired by the Regius Professor of Physic.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of autonomy and effectiveness in facilitating delivery of complex research projects, supervising budgetary and contractual agreements, contributing to strategic planning, managing senior stakeholders, managing a staff team, working across different organisational cultures, and communications. A track record of energetic and effective delivery of a portfolio of clinical research programmes and some experience of working with both public and private sector organisations are key requirements.

In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a supplement to the salary range stated for this role taking the salary up to £60K for a limited period. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
