Research Assistant in Comparative Cognition (Fixed Term)


We are seeking a research assistant to work on a project investigating causal reasoning in corvids and humans, funded by the ERC. The Principal Investigator is Professor Nicola Clayton (see: http://www.psychol.cam.ac.uk/people/nicola-clayton). The post-holder will join Prof Clayton's Comparative Cognition research group in the Department of Psychology.

The person appointed will be responsible for the day-to-day running of experiments, and will help with the administration and organisation of both the grant and experiments.

The research work will involve training and testing corvids at the Sub-Department of Animal Behaviour in Madingley, as well as some testing of humans (primarily, but not exclusively, children and young infants). This role may potentially involve research trips overseas to test corvids at our collaborators' research station in New Caledonia. Consequently, it is desirable that the post-holder has experience of running cognitive experiments with humans, ideally children, and essential that they have experience of working with birds, ideally corvids. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in experimental psychology, biology or related discipline and a background in experimental psychology, biology, or a related field.

Given the nature of this work, it is also essential that the post holder is self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of a team. They must have excellent organisational and communication skills, and be prepared to do both lab-based testing and field work.
