We are looking to appoint a full-time horticultural assistant for the Botanic Garden's Trees and Shrubs Section.
The Trees and Shrubs Section is one of seven sections that comprise the Garden's horticultural division, each responsible for caring for specific areas of the Garden and associated plant collections within the 40 acre site.
The role supports the Trees and Shrubs Supervisor in the maintenance, curation and development of the internationally important scientific collection of woody collections at the Botanic Garden. This section consists of some 3,000 different species of trees and shrubs planted throughout the 40-acre garden. This role includes the care and maintenance of associated herbaceous plantings and turf areas. There is also a requirement for occasional arboricultural work.
The role-holder reports directly to the Trees and Shrubs Supervisor on daily and weekly work plans, progress and developments within the Section. They assist in providing supervision guidance to one Trainee Horticultural Technician. They deputise for the Trees and Shrubs Supervisor in their absence.
The candidate should be educated to at least GCSE level, hold a National Certificate in Horticulture, or equivalent, and have suitable professional horticultural experience.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
