Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant within the Cambridge University division of a major EC Horizon 2020 project investigating the ageing immune response.

An integrated approach to dissect determinants, risk factors and pathways of ageing of the immune system

The project is part of a collaborative EC grant performing a series of staged analyses on samples from healthy ageing individuals. Age-related immune dysfunction is an increasing problem due to our ageing population and is manifest as a profound reduction in responsiveness to vaccination or infection and a concurrent increase in the prevalence of autoimmune disease. Analyses to be performed include serum autoantibody profiling, T and B cell receptor repertoire profiling, virome sequencing and pathogen response serological profiling. We will use information from these analyses to inform functional studies of immune ageing and to develop tests or, ultimately, treatments that allow us to prevent the damaging health consequences of immune senescence.

The successful applicant will be primarily based in the University of Cambridge, Department of Medicine working as part of a team of researchers involved in the project. There is a minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in biological science with appropriate experience in a molecular biology laboratory environment (or equivalent qualification and/or experience). Familiarity with data processing and analysis including basic bioinformatics is preferred but not essential.
