A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the transcriptional activity of mouse embryonic organoids at the level of single cells. The post holder will be located in Department of Engineering in the group of Dr Alexandre Kabla. The experimental work will be carried out in the laboratory of Professor Alfonso Martinez Arias in the University's Department of Genetics.
The key responsibilities and duties are: - Generating transgenic lines. Designing and implementing strategies to generate transgenic mouse ES cells lines using CRISPR and other techniques. - Assaying the engineered cell lines in organoids - Writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, training, skills and career development
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: - Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Genetics, Biochemistry or related research area. - They should have the following knowledge and skills: routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR etc), genetic engineering techniques, gateway cloning, CRISPR/Cas9, mouse genetics and developmental biology knowledge is desirable
Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial: mouse embryology, transcription, genetics, developmental biology and bioinformatics; publications in scientific literature; experience in dealing with a range of scientists, from group leaders to technical staff.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,298 - £29,301 Research Associate: £29,301 - £38,183
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
