Research Coordinator for the NIHR IBD BioResource (Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a new post to set up and support the running of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) cohort within the NIHR BioResource.

The NIHR IBD BioResource will provides a cohort of patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (collectively termed IBD) who have provided lifestyle and health information and biological samples (DNA, serum, plasma) and consented to be approached on the basis of their genotype and phenotype to participate in clinical research. The 25,000 IBD BioResource subjects will be recruited from hospital clinics UK-wide using the existing functional network of the UK IBD Genetics Consortium. It will include 1000 subjects newly diagnosed with IBD.

The post-holder will be based in Cambridge alongside both Dr Miles Parkes (chair of UKIBDGC) and the NIHR BioResource national office, and will work closely with clinicians in IBD clinics across the UK and with two other IBD BioResource coordinators. The role holder will ensure effective relationships with all staff involved with the IBD BioResource; will need to travel to recruitment sites to train and motivate clinical and research teams; and will promote and facilitate use of the IBD BioResource cohort in downstream studies.

The IBD BioResource is modeled on the Cambridge NIHR BioResource, set up over 7 years ago with now over 14,000 volunteers. Details of studies supported by the CBR can be found at:

This is a multi-faceted and varied role which requires a motivated and proactive individual with excellent organization, communication and project delivery skills, the capacity to manage competing demands and ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Applicants should hold a degree (or equivalent), ideally in a biomedical science subject, with knowledge and experience of regulatory issues and statutory requirements, the principles of GCP, and confidentiality/data protection. Proficiency in IT is essential. Experience of interaction with NHS R&D departments would be an advantage.
