Undergraduate Office Assistant

The Cavendish Laboratory is seeking to fill the newly created post of Office Assistant for its Undergraduate Education Office, which supports the Teaching and Outreach programme. This role would suit candidates with some office experience who have an interest in education and the student experience, with a view to developing a career in administration or academic support.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing general clerical and administrative assistance to the Undergraduate Office supporting the Tripos students, teaching and outreach programmes. The role holder will also assist in the co-ordination of the examinations for the MPhil in Scientific Computing.

Typical daily duties include answering emails and queries from staff and students, booking rooms and helping organise outreach events for school pupils, and managing and preparing lecture materials. Competence with MS Office is essential as is a willingness to learn how to use web-based software packages (particularly Qualtrics and Eventbrite) to assist with analysing student and outreach event feedback.

Applicants should be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent with passes at grade C or above in English, Mathematics and Science. The post holder should demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform clerical duties in an organised and methodical manner. Most importantly, we are looking for a team member with a helpful and positive attitude who is able to use their own initiative in dealing with day to day challenges and deadlines, whilst also possessing the mature interpersonal skills necessary to deal with a diverse variety of people.
