Research Assistant/Associate (Fixed Term)

A post for a Research Assistant/Associate is available in the Computer Laboratory at the University of Cambridge to work on the Scalable and Secure Infrastructures for Cloud Operations (SSICLOPS) project in the area of hardware/software co-design. Scalable and Secure Infrastructures for Cloud Operations (SSICLOPS), is an EU Horizon2020-funded research project in collaboration with TU Munich, UPB (Romania), F-Secure, NetApp, and NEC among others. The combined team has extensive experience developing and deploying novel networking technologies such as high-performance multicore network stacks, multi-path TCP, and FPGA-based networking in both research and industry, and seeks systems researchers willing to contribute with new ideas and deployments.

An ideal candidate must have: + Familiarity working with and developing/using the full TCP/IP network stack and associated protocols. + Excellent software programming skills. + Effective verbal and written communication skills. + Willingness to work in under-development environments to engage with new challenges involving early-stage platform code and hardware.

A suitable candidate might also have the following desirable skills: + Familiarity with hardware, especially FPGA programming. + Ability to work with PhD students, postdocs and colleagues in the group on open-source code, and lead and participate in the preparation of academic publications on the research activities conducted in this area.

This position can be filled by an appropriate candidate at Research Assistant or Research Associate level, depending on relevant qualifications and experience. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience). Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made as a Research Assistant and amended to Research Associate when the PhD is awarded.

The successful candidate will work in the diverse and exciting Systems Research Group. Good communication skills and knowledge of English are important, as well as a willingness to work with the open-source community to upstream project outputs.
