We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Nurse to take on a key leadership role in a new purpose-built Metabolic Clinical Research Facility located at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. This post is equivalent to NHS Band 7-8a depending on experience.
The Wellcome-Trust MRC Institute of Metabolic Science is one of the world's leading Centres pioneering research in Metabolism. Our vision is to take scientific advances forward to develop new treatments for obesity and diabetes. Funded by a Strategic Award from the Wellcome Trust, we have established new, state-of-the-art Clinical Research Facilities with 8 beds dedicated to experimental medicine studies and trials. The post-holder will be the Nurse Manager and will play a key role in establishing and running this Unit which is scheduled to open in May 2017.
We are looking to recruit a highly experienced Senior Nurse/Ward Manager who will manage day-to-day clinical research activity on this Unit, develop and monitor clinical standards and provide visible clinical leadership and support for the ward team. Previous experience of ward management is essential including all aspects of staff management, scheduling and budget management.
The role will involve supervision of a team of nurses and support staff as well as direct hands-on involvement in a number of research studies within a defined clinical area. Clinical studies involve recruitment of participants, obtaining informed consent, taking blood samples, performing specialist tests such as metabolic rate measurements, clamps, taking biopsies and administering trial drugs. Experience of working on a Clinical Research Facility, in a Trials Unit or in the Pharmaceutical Industry would be an advantage, but is not necessary.
You will be a registered nurse with current NMC registration and significant clinical experience in an acute care setting. Training in advanced metabolic measurements will be given. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other Senior Research Nurses and research teams in the building and contribute to research governance procedures.
This is a full time University post funded by the Wellcome Trust involving predominantly day time duties.
Proposed start date: as soon as possible.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
