The McDonald Institute invites applications for the second Renfrew Fellowship in Archaeology, to be held in association with a Research Fellowship at Fitzwilliam College. Named in honour of the Institute's founding Director, Professor Colin Renfrew, this three-year postdoctoral Fellowship will consist of a stipend at Research Associate level (£29,301 - £38,183), while Fitzwilliam College will provide rent-free accommodation plus associated benefits. An allowance of £6000 p.a. will be provided for a Fellow who wishes to live out. In addition, the Fellow will be entitled to up to £2000 p.a. research expenses (through the McDonald Institute and Fitzwilliam College, for conference attendance, travel for training, etc.) and the opportunity to apply through open competition for up to £5000 p.a. for fieldwork or other research funds from the D. M. McDonald Grants and Awards Fund. The successful applicant will take up the Fellowship on 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applicants must have been awarded their PhD a maximum of 7 years prior to the closing date shown below, and have had their PhD successfully examined by the same date. They should propose an intellectually innovative, well-focussed research project within any field of archaeology, broadly construed. The successful applicant will, by carrying out that project, complement and enhance the research profile of archaeology at Cambridge, and will also help to stimulate and shape the postdoctoral research culture of the Institute.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
